WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Practically, everyone since the beginning of history has had a name. It has been stated that during the early years, some people felt that anyone who knew another person's name could gain power over that person. Furthermore, some people kept their real names secret and were known only by their nickname. Nevertheless, almost all names have meanings. For this reason, I wanted to share my thoughts concerning "What's in a name" More specifically, what's in the name of The Kingdom of God Evangelistic Outreach Ministry. Recently, I delivered a sermon entitled "What's In A Name." The text for this sermon was taken from the book of Philippians 2:9-10. These scriptures truly declare that there is something in a name. In biblical thought, a name is not a mere label of identification; it is an expression of the essential nature or character of the bearer. A man's name reveals his character. It is the essence of his personality and the expression of his innermost being.

I have discovered that people are bothered and sometimes disturbed whenever they are called something other than who they are, even when it is unintentional. This happens because oftentimes a person may not really know who you are. An innocent example of this is our ministry. The Kingdom of God Evangelistic Outreach Ministry is mistaken to be the Kingdom's of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even innocently mistaking us, this indeed does disturb us. For you see, Jehovah's Witnesses can't pray to Jesus and has no assurance of salvation. To them, "the Holy Spirit is an impersonal force and the 'good news' is that in 1914 Jesus became the invisible ruler of God's kingdom in heaven with the Watchtower Society, headquartered in Brooklyn N.Y., as his visible agency on earth." After having read this, you can see clearly why it is important to know "what's in a name" and why I, along with citizens of God's kingdom, may become disturbed to be confused with Jehovah's Witnesses. It is clear that we are all that they are not.

Let's look at what's in our name -The Kingdom of God Evangelistic Outreach Ministry.

The Kingdom of God: The Kingdom of God is the sovereignty of God. It is the reign or rule of God invading the kingdom of Satan. It is an everlasting kingdom. When Jesus said that his kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36), he did not refer to his realm. He meant that his rule was not derived from earthly authority but from God and that his kingship would not manifest itself like a human kingdom but in accordance with the divine purpose. We are called to live in the kingdom of God. Jesus said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Jesus knew that the only way we could regain our original purpose in life was to return to kingdom living.

Evangelistic: Evangelistic is the work of evangelism and evangelism is sharing the gospel of the kingdom with people who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Jesus was the world's greatest evangelist. His total ministry was built on evangelism. We, the Citizens of the Kingdom of God, have received the mandate from Jesus Christ to evangelize the world. This is our "Reach The World" ministry. We are reaching the world through word of mouth evangelism, door to door evangelism, television evangelism, and even through our community newsletter. Our Sunday worship and praise service is evangelistic. The word of God goes forth and the invitation is given to salvation. As an evangelistic ministry, we are a ministry of teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom for the total need of the total person. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things what soever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28: 19-20)
